Yep.. that’s today. Research shows that by the second Friday in January most people have given up on their resolutions (goals) for the year.
I’ve seen a lot of advice on the web, and a lot of it is really good. Authors often talk about making the goals specific and breaking things down. Good stuff indeed. However, if you’re not ready to quit, either personally or professionally, there’s two critical things to consider first.
** Firstly, a lot of goals are not achieved because people aren’t really invested. The end doesn’t end up justifying the means. It’s not important enough. The why is not clear.
Achieving your goals is likely to take some work; it might even be uncomfortable. So the ability to remind yourself why you’re doing this in the first place becomes really important.
Why do you want to lose weight? Why do you want to save all that money to travel? why is that so important?
** The second missing critical piece is about visualization. You must be able to clearly see your future self. You need to make your goals so crystal clear that when you tell other people, they can see your vision too. With the clearest visions, you will actually feel what it’s going to be like.
The ‘why’ creates the rationale; it’ll be the reminder throughout the journey. The ‘vision’ creates the emotion, the excitement, the motivation. You’ll have both sides of your brain cheerleading you along.
Good luck in 2025
